Templates

Use this page to manage Site Scripts and Site Templates in your tenant.

These can be applied to new and existing SharePoint sites, either through My Mercury or from the SharePoint Site itself.

Using My Mercury to apply templates to sites allows you to apply the template to many sites at once, using Site Arrangements.

Site Scripts

Site Scripts are JSON files that contain a series of actions that are performed in a site.

Documentation from Microsoft about Site Scripts can be found here.

Initializing Default Templates

Mercury Intranet Sites rely on a default Information Architecture, including Site Columns, Content Types, and Lists. The Default Templates provides this information architecture, and the button on the page creates these templates for you.

You must ensure you initialize the default Mercury Taxonomy/Term Store entries first. Navigate to the Taxonomy section of My Mercury and click Initialize Mercury Term Group to set up the standard Mercury Intranet taxonomy, then initialize the default templates - there are Managed Metadata Columns that reference standard Mercury Term Sets that must exist first.

Site Templates

A Site Template is a collection of site scripts that are invoked in turn. They have a title, description, and often a Preview Image - all to assist in the visual navigation of the Site Template within SharePoint's interface to help you choose the correct template.
